What kind of shotgun does everyone use for their waterfowling??
Mine is a Mossberg 835 ultimag with a custom camo paint job (a few cans of camo spray paint:D ). I prefer federal 3 inch 4's for Ducks and then I step it up to the 3 1/2 inch bb's for Geese.

Scott,
Is that a pump action shotgun? I don't think I have heard of it.

Depends on my mood, I either use a Mossberg 835 or a Binelli Nova.
As for ammo I use 3 inch number 4 shot on ducks and 3 inch or 3.5 inch bbs on geese.

I shoot a comfortech Supernova and an M1. I hope to have a Stoeger m2000 in Wetlands soon so I don't have to take my Steadygrip off my M1 again. It's too much of a pain to switch, that's what I tell my wife!Think it will work?

Thanks, I change the pics from hunting to paintball sometimes just to keep it real. Request me as a friend if you like, I'll accept it.I want more Pro Staffers on there so we can cook up some killer stuff. I don't want to ditch this forum, but I also don't want to fill it up with the small talk that we hunters are so fond of.I want everyone to be a team, like family.

For duck & geese here in Canada I use my Mossberg 500 pump in 12ga 3" chamber. It has a custom camo paint job & works well for me. I have been trying #2 & BB steel. I also have an old Browning Auto5 made by FN. It has a 2 3/4" chamber. I bought a box of Federal Black Cloud #2 to use in the Auto5. I have been out for ducks 3 times this year but have missed all of my shots ;-). Wish me better luck. Our duck season goes until Dec. 20. Good luck to everyone.

Yeah I guess It's about twice the price of regular steel shot. What shells do you prefer? Does anyone use Hevi-shot?

I like to use my H and R pump for ducks 3" with 2's or 3's and my 3.5 remington for geese with BB's or BBB's late season both do a great job.

I have been using an 870 Wingmaster and Kent Fast Steel #2 for Duck and Winchester Super X BB for goose. I then acqired a Beretta AL391 Synthetic and tried Federal Black Cloud.
My initial experience was that they patterned similar to a decent quality steel shot (Super X and Kent Fast Steel). They say they cause more carnage due to the uneven shot but I have not really noticed a huge difference in stopping power. But considering I was buying Black Cloud for $2.00 more then I was paying for the Winchester Super X it was worth it for the piece of mind.
I personally cannot justify $3.00/shell for Hevi/ExtendedRange - with my shooting abilities I figure a miss is still a miss regardless of what I am throwing at it :D

What choke have you been shooting the Black Cloud out of?

I did not opt for an aftermarket choke and used just my Remchoke (Mod) in my 870, and a Moble (Mod) choke in my Beretta 391.

That is what I usually do also! lol I never really have a reason to switch from Mod until I go to jack up some turks. It has always been my "do all" constriction

I think that next season when I am shooting geese try a IM or even a full - I was with a guy this season and he was dropping late season geese in 1 shot using steel:eek: Afterwards to confessed that he was using a full choke and 3" BB's through his 870 Express.
I will probably do some patterning this summer when out busing some clays at the gun club

Just remember to make sure you are using a "Steel shot approved" IM or Full tube! I'd hate to hear about the gun you used to have once apon a time...

You will regret those words! Don't be upset when "your" Super Black Eagle II, with 24in barrel,Steadygrip stock, and in Realtree APG shows up at the house in two weeks after he comes home from his Gander Mtn. seminars;):D
That Mossberg needs a rest from dove season anyway...

Winchester SX3, Winchester SX2, Benelli M1. (not all at the same time) :p
Hey 410001661,
I would not recommend that you use a full choke with Black Cloud. Federal specifically says not to use a FC. I would recommend your IC or even a skeet choke. You want a very open choke with that stuff.

The Benelli M1 is one of my all time favorite guns!

I shoot a skeet tube in one barrel & IC in the other. Plenty of knock down power and dense pattern with 1 9/16 Fast Steele. Read reports of barrel bulging and blowouts with BlackCloud last season. Like Rich said, not recommended with a restricted cholke tube. Jim

I was shooting Blackcloud #3's last season with a Mod. choke, and that was as tight as I'm going with the stuff. It took down some Mallards at some pretty far ranges, but I'm not 100% sold on the stuff.
The Kent loads have really impressed me. Their turkey loads with Diamondshot, are awesome. The price is the most astounding thing about this companie's loads, very reasonable. They are kind of a "sleeper".
Have you guys shot the Federal Heavyweight waterfowl loads through your guns?

I have shot Fast Steele for years without any problems. Cannot justify the cost of most of the alternatives. Jim

Browning Gold 3 1/2"- Love that gun! There is no telling how many ducks I have killed with that gun. It fits so well that when I am shooting it, it feels like an extension of my hand. I bought a Remington 870 Wingmaster earlier this year and I am thinking of using that one this year but I am going to take it to the shotgun range and see how it does.
