Anyone have experience using a crossbow for turkeys? I'm considering it for this spring. I'm not sure whether to use a field point or something a bit sharper, or maybe one of the judo type heads. Something I'll have to overcome is the noise from the string when releasing. From past experience, turkeys reflexes are so sharp and they move so quick, if the arrow has to travel more than 10-15 yards, the bird will have moved out of the way.

Any thoughts?

I have no experience, but I did investigate it when KY legalized crossbow for turkey.

1) Use a broadhead, but buy some grabbers that go on behind the point. It stops complete penetration and passthrough. Aim for the root of the wing on a broadside shot.
2) Whatever your success rate is with a shotgun, forget about it. A veteran turkey hunter may end up with 10 turkeys called in and botched to every one he bags with a bow.
3) Compound bows are only marginally better for turkey than a compound. It's hard, but not impossible. I get maybe 1-2 setups a year where I feel I could have taken a turkey with a crossbow.
4) Use a blind.

I have one buddy who's killed one gobbler with a bow. Most have not tried. I keep threatening to try one with my second tag each year, but then I wimp out.

It's a pretty sick video really(I liked it), I don't think it helps our industry whatsoever though. It gives the tree hugging liberals an edge on us by showing that we are a bunch of blood thirsty cavemen.

If i were you i would a broad head and put somthing like a game getter behind it to help slow it down. I would also check your states regulations because i now alot of the time they say you must use a head that has 2 or more blades on it.

I didn't know what you were talking about, so I went out and Googled it.

Zowie! Heads flying off and everything! One thing is for sure, the turkey ain't gonna mind it. I think it's a gimmick, though. Actually, I found two videos out there. The one has heads flying everywhere, and the other tends more towards body kills and is not nearly as graphic.

I'm still plenty entertained by a shotgun. I think I'll pass.
