What is your favorite type of surface on a Pot n Peg type friction call, and what is your favorite type of striker?

I prefer a glass call for agressive calling and a slate for soft, sweet calling.Purple strikers!

I prefer a ceramic type surface like Sla-tek that K&H uses for single reason, it produces the most accurate cutts that fire birds up and I cite a bunch of dead gobblers as evidence.

Ceramic also inherantly has some of the best qualities of other surfaces, it will scream like aluminum and can whisper like slate. Also it doesn't seem to prefer a certain striker, it likes them all.

The first bird I ever called in by myself was with a QB Triple Threat. I still carry that call for a change of pace option but the Sla-Tek and any old hickory striker is my first choice.

You might be in Heaven then with the new Trifecta call, then! lol

It has three calling surfaces like the Triple Threat, and one of the surface's is what we call Cordy, which is a ceramic surface. The other two are Aluminum, and slate. Check it out if you get a chance..

I heard the Trifecta was free to all Louisville turkey hunters. I am only a couple miles from Churchill Downs :p

Nice thing about the new Trifecta is the larger calling surfaces than it's predecessor. Which translates to easier usage! The Cordy or ceramic is nice and raspy and loud! I like it with the Purple Heart Striker for a higher pitch.

> the new Trifecta call... <

Sounds like a winning combination, I'm always tweaking my arsenal.

The original Triple threat was a great idea, but the plexi surface is the most tempermental I have ever encountered. It produces the softest clucks you'll ever hear but requires constant maintenance to retain friction no matter what striker you use.

Sam,

You made a good choice! Check the Myspace msg. I sent you, I'll get you some practice time with it before the season if you want.

Chad,

I like the crystal slate calls with either a purple heart or carbon striker. I prefer the higher pitch they both seem to put out and some times the turkeys like it, too. I also like aluminum with a carbon striker combo as well.

Just remember Sam, don't get finger oils all over the striker tip or calling surfaces. Always handle it from the sides or bottom.

Nice work dude! lol i barely remember this post. Time is flying by. Id still like to do some wood working, pots and pegs etc. Just got to find the time and the money. I must have missed the jb weld tipped cedar striker whats that all about? Your own invention?

I've seen quite a few grown men that couldn't run a scratch box. :p

No doubt Paul....they do make some of the best hollow subtle clucks IMO...If the birds aint talkin, I will find a good set-up and blind call w/ the scratch box..has paid off many times. Will Martz gave me a couple of his new 2X4 scratch boxes during the Bowhunter Jamboree this past September...they are excellent.

Sam.....its a striker I got from a call-maker in Kentucky....that JB weld on that aluminum starts high and breaks over like a ole nasty hen.
