About a week ago (1 foot of snow still on the ground) I was at camp, when I saw a group of birds walking throught the field. They were traveling right under about 5 acorn trees. That is the extent of my scouting thus far (still too much snow). However, it is currently 65 degrees today and hopefully I can get out on Friday.

They are gobblin' good here in South GA. Not talking too late after hitting the dirt, but they bustin' loose.

So w/ my daughter, I went across to my sweet spot in suburbia/rural zone where I hunted deer. The snow has been melting fast here so I figured the buck tracks I saw are 2-3 days old. He's a hogger. I hope I see him someday. I hope more it's during deer season. She had a tracks chart from school and we found all kinds of footprints, deer, squirrel, crow, dog.
But the turkey tracks were slightly farther up the hill. They were very directional down to the neighbor's swampy yard and back towards the upper part that's all hardwoods and pines. More than 12 birds easily. Since it snowed a bit this morning and then warmed up, I know these crispy tracks were from today.
Now, my novice turkey ability doesn't know much about size so I measured the front toe at about 4" for the biggest tracks. There were 3 sets that size. The others were about 2 1/2 - 3" for the front toe. I found piles of fresh droppings, too, up where the edge of the snow was under the pines. I'm going to leave that spot alone until late April and put up a ground blind. Anyone think they'll still be there? Our season isn't until May 1st.
Thanks,

Hard to tell Adam. I would definetly scout the area some more a little closer to season. The tracks with the longer middle toe were probably gobblers. The smaller tracks probably hens. The J shaped droppings were gobblers and the curly Q's were hens.....

Been out off the river scouting for the past three mornings prior to daylight in Florida. Been hearing about 3-4 different gobblers hammering every morning. took some pics of the swamp and the mud boat.

I can say that I pretty much jinxed myself by saying that. I woke up yesterday morning to a lake in my back yard. I had to stop the fish commission from stocking it with trout. Around 8am it started to snow, and it has not stopped since. All the snow that had melted on tuesday when it was 70 degrees is now back. Needless to say, I did not get to go scout for birds. However, I did call the local agway to check if they carried some minerals. I will be putting them out soon as well.

Took a picture of these toms at my Uncle's farm a couple of weeks ago thru the windshield of my car. They flew off when I got too close. I'm hoping they stay around the area.

Also took a picture of this "turkey landing mark" in the snow.
